A new standing order from Gov. Janet Mills on Friday authorizes healthcare providers to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to anyone who wants one.

It comes after new guidance at the federal level to only administer the shot to people 65 and older and those with high-risk conditions.

Maine CDC Director Dr. Puthiery says adults and children 6 months and older will be able to get the shots in Maine.

A DHHS spokesperson said in a statement that the department will ensure policy is “based on rigorous evidence and not the failed politics of the pandemic.”
