The Maine Department of Transportation has released a video of the collapse of an under construction bridge in Old Town last month.

Three construction workers were injured while pouring concrete for the new bridge deck of the Llewellyn Estes Bridge over the Stillwater River on August 13th. One worker suffered a broken ankle and two others suffered minor injuries.

Maine DOT says the collapse likely involved buckling of a girder, followed by an immediate cascading failure of the adjacent girders.

DOT says determining exactly how the beams failed is part of an investigation into the collapse, and will require additional engineering analysis.

The Llewellyn Estes Bridge consists of two bridges carrying Stillwater Avenue over two channels of the Stillwater River in Old Town.

MaineDOT is replacing both bridges. Traffic is currently using a temporary two-lane bridge. The new bridges were under construction and were not open to motorists at the time of the August 13 incident.
