A dozen organizations that run warming shelters in Maine will receive $2.7 million in funding.

The money awarded by MaineHousing will help fund warming shelters in communities across the state, including Portland, Bangor, Lewiston and as far north as Presque Isle.

In all, the shelters provide 474 beds, with most facilities planning to stay open through April.

Seeds of Hope will receive the largest share of the money to support its facilities in Biddeford and Portland.
