Man Accused of Threatening to Detonate Bomb During Bangor Burglary

James McAllian -Bangor Police

A 48-year-old Bangor faces charges after police say he threatened to detonate a pipe bomb when caught burglarizing a Bangor business.

Officers say they found James McAllian inside a closed business on Venture Way in Bangor around 11 a.m. on Sunday.

McAllian reportedly told them he had a pipe bomb and threatened to detonate it.

Police say officers were able to talk McAllian out of the building through the window he had used to enter it.

McAllian was the searched and found to have no explosives on him. However, he told police where inside the building the reported explosive was.

Police say they located the device and vacated the building.
The Bangor Police bomb squad was brought in, and after examining the device,  determined that although it looked like a pipe bomb, it was not an active bomb.
McAllian was taken to Penobscot County Jail on burglary and criminal threatening
charges.
