A 30-year-old Benton man faces numerous charges after police say he led several agencies on a chase in a reported stolen vehicle Tuesday.

Officers say Christopher Groves failed to stop in Fairfield and led police into Waterville, including a stretch driving the wrong way on I-95, before parking in Clinton.

Police say Groves initially fled and began operating in an erratic manner from the area of Mill Street in Fairfield in a black 2022 GMC Sierra.

Officers say a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver) was immediately attempted to end the chase, but was unsuccessful.

They say the chase continued into Waterville, and south bound onto the Interstate, where the vehicle crossed the median and began driving the wrong way before turning around. Officers lost sight of the vehicle at that time.

A short time later, the vehicle was located parked in Clinton. Several witnesses told officers that the driver had gone into a residence on Canaan Road, then fled on foot out the back door.

Police say Groves was tracked down shortly afterward on foot and arrested by a Pittsfield Officer and a Somerset County deputy.

Groves was arrested on five active warrants and now faces seven additional felony and misdemeanor charges:

• Eluding an Officer Class C
• Aggravated Criminal Mischief Class C
• Reckless Conduct With a Dangerous Weapon Class C
• Failing to Stop For a Police Officer Class E
• Driving to Endanger Class E
• Criminal Speed Class E
• Violating Conditions of Release Class E
Groves was taken to the Somerset County Jail and has a court date is set for July 15.
