A Limerick man is suing Maine State Police over accusations that troopers punched him while he was handcuffed after his arrest in March of 2024.

Justin Savage and his girlfriend, Shawna Morse, filed a civil lawsuit claiming police wrongfully arrested them following a report of domestic violence.

Reporting from the Bangor Daily News and the Maine Monitor found that state police misrepresented what happened when Savage was taken into custody, including blaming Savage for breaking a sergeant’s ankle.

Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss issued a statement Tuesday saying the agency reviewed the incident and found that the troopers’ response was justified.
