The pilot killed in a small plane crash off the coast of Bristol on Thursday has been identified.

John Hall, 54, of Lee, New Hampshire was killed when his single-engine plane ended upside-down in the water near Pemaquid Beach around 2 p.m. Thursday.

Hall’s son, 21-year-old Tyler Hall, was the only passenger and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He’s expected to make a full recovery.

In a preliminary report released Friday, investigators said the Diamond DA20 plane declared an emergency due to engine issues before it struck terrain along the shoreline and ended up upside-down in the ocean.

The Medical Examiner’s Office was still working to determine the cause of Hall’s death on Friday.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office along with Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
