Police Say One Adult, Four Kids Arrested After Beak-ins, High Speed Chase

Kennebec County Sheriff's Office

Four kids and a young adult face numerous charges after being accused of breaking into businesses and leading police on a high-speed chase through three counties.

Deputies say the five used a sledgehammer to smash the windows of dispensaries and smoke shops in Waldo and Hancock counties early Monday morning.

They say the suspects evaded police and reached 110 miles per hour before crashing in Waterville, and were finally chased down on foot.

Officers say 18-year-old Larando Sweeting of Auburn and the four underage minors were arrested on numerous charges.

Their vehicle, a black Toyota RAV 4, was determined to have been stolen out of Auburn.

Deputies say that during the extended chase, the RAV 4 was able to drive around a spike mat on Lakeview Drive in the Kennebec County town of China.

Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputies were able to catch up with the suspect vehicle as it was entering the town of Winslow, but backed off after it exceeded 100 miles per hour.

The Waterville Police Department took over the pursuit, and the RAV4 ultimately went off the road on Kennedy Memorial Drive near Inland Hospital, where the suspects took off on foot.

Police say all five suspects were taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
