A scrap fire at a Berwick recycling center has prompted a water conservation order for the area.

Crews could remain on scene at Berwick Iron and Metal Recycling on Route 236 into Friday.

According to a dispatcher, crews were called to the scene around 6:10 a.m. for a report of a fire.

By 10 a.m., the entire fire department along with engines from surrounding towns were battling the flames.

Residents are being asked to stop non-essential water use.

Route 236 between Berwick and New Dam Roads is closed.

Drivers are being asked to use Blackberry Hill Road as a detour.
