The state Medical Examiner says a woman found dead at East End Beach in Portland in 2015 has finally been identified.
The office says a sketch was created by a Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office detective of the woman known as Jane Doe Portland, and her fingerprints were submitted to the FBI. The fingerprints and sketch produced to results, but the DNA Doe Project eventually linked her to South Korea.
They say the DNA Doe Project and Portland Police detective Andjelko Napijalo continued to work with South Korean Police to compare Jane Doe’s fingerprints to South Korean records.
A breakthrough was achieved last month, 12 years after the reported death, as the woman was identified as 66-years-old Byung Ran Kim, whose last known address was in New York.
Police say the woman’s family has been notified.
